According to Globo.com, Botafogo have approached Flamengo about signing Cebolinha, whose contract expires in December, and asked about the club’s plans for him. Flamengo have indicated he is free to seek a new team, including an immediate exit.
He has been able to sign a pre-contract since July and decided months ago not to remain at Flamengo. Even so, concluding a deal would not be straightforward for Botafogo.
The forward favours a move abroad, with Russia and Türkiye considered realistic at present. He was close to Krasnodar earlier in the window, but the move fell through. A stay in Brazil is possible, though not his preference.
Cebolinha has drawn interest from several Brazilian sides and has a long association with Grêmio, the club that developed him, and he has publicly signalled a desire to return. Botafogo are simultaneously targeting quick wide players and have an agreement for defender Arthur Chaves.
His salary is regarded as high, and, with his next deal set to be as a free agent, signing-on fees are expected to be spread across his monthly pay, raising the total cost. The club’s wage bill has fallen by more than R$ 6 million after recent exits.
At Flamengo he has been used sparingly. Coach Leonardo Jardim has left him out of some squads to focus on players who will stay. He returned for the derby with Botafogo due to a lack of options, featured, and provided an assist in the win.
