Lazio have confirmed Boulaye Dia has joined Stade Rennais on a season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy, taking the forward back to France after five years. The club said in a statement that the purchase clause depends on specific sporting conditions.

It is his first return to Ligue one since Stade Reims sold him to Villarreal in 2021. Dia arrived at Lazio from Salernitana in the summer of 2024.

He impressed early on as a second striker in Marco Baroni’s system alongside Taty Castellanos. He later struggled when asked to lead the line in a different set-up under Maurizio Sarri last season and Gennaro Gattuso this term.

The announcement did not disclose figures. The fee is expected to be around €10 million if the move becomes permanent next summer, with the conditions for an obligation viewed as straightforward, so a return to Formello is considered unlikely.

Dia departs after 81 appearances for Lazio in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and supplying six assists.
