Brahim Hemdani’s first Algeria squad omits Luca Zidane and Houssem Aouar | OneFootball

Brahim Hemdani has left out Luca Zidane and Houssem Aouar from his first Algeria squad for the CAN 2027 qualifiers.

According to L'Équipe, Hemdani, who has replaced Vladimir Petkovic, has named his group to face Zambia on 25 September at 21:00 and Burundi on 29 September at 15:00. The finals are scheduled from 19 June to 17 July in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Zidane, Algeria’s goalkeeper at the World Cup, was heavily criticised for his performances and is also suspended following incidents after the last edition’s match against Nigeria. Rafik Belghali is likewise suspended and absent.

Other omissions include Hicham Boudaoui, Yacine Titraoui, who is injured, Ramiz Zerrouki and Nadhir Benbouali, in addition to Aouar. Algeria will also be without Aïssa Mandi and Riyad Mahrez, who announced their international retirements after the World Cup.

In-form Mohamed Belloumi of Hull City has been called up, as has Amine Chiakha.
