Braulio sets out stance on José Luis Gayà and Jesús Vázquez renewals | OneFootball

New Valencia sporting director Braulio Vázquez has cooled talk of immediate renewals, stressing the team’s situation, 19th in LaLiga, takes priority, while praising José Luis Gayà as a club legend and saying his contract will be addressed in due course.

"I have only been here 72 hours. There are urgent and necessary matters. Gayà made his debut with me at Llagostera in the Copa del Rey. José is a legend of the club and, in due course, we will deal with that situation. I hope he still gives us a lot, he can keep giving us more," he told Cadena SER’s El Larguero.

The 31-year-old left back is in his 15th season with the first team. His deal runs to June 2027. He has been open to a pay cut, but rejected a very low August offer from Ron Gourlay.

"The renewal of Jesús Vázquez I am not going to handle. I am delighted with both left backs, Gayà and Jesús. We need the best version of both," he said on Cope’s El Partidazo.

Jesús Vázquez is contracted until June 2028 and has a deep bond with the club from childhood. "Jagoba wanted Jesús and I told him to go to Valencia to try to convince him," he added, after interest from Mallorca head coach Jagoba Arrasate. Gayà wants to retire at the Nou Mestalla as a one-club man at Valencia.
