Gabriel Brazão has been managing pain since 2024 yet remains Santos’s first-choice goalkeeper. After admitting on Sunday that he has been playing injured, he is still expected to stay in the side.

According to Globo.com, he has been feeling pain in the right adductor muscle of his thigh. The squad return on Tuesday, when he will be reassessed by the medical department.

Santos travel to Curitiba on Wednesday to face Athletico-PR in the third round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, and the expectation is that Brazão keeps his place.

It is not the first time he has played on despite discomfort. He has reported issues in the shoulder, knee and back, none serious enough to sideline him for long.

The approach has been consistent, when symptoms arise he skips on-field work to receive treatment, then returns to start. He is only likely to miss out if a more severe injury occurs.

Players are viewed as varying in their sensitivity to pain, with Brazão seen among the less sensitive. Early-year complaints are also considered common after a shortened pre-season.
