According to BILD, Julian Nagelsmann has stepped down as Germany head coach after three years in charge, following the national team’s disappointing Round of 32 exit at this summer’s World Cup, where they were eliminated by Paraguay on penalties.

Speculation had intensified in recent days that the German Football Association (DFB) had urged Nagelsmann to leave his position, and those reports now appear to have been confirmed, with the 38-year-old officially vacating the role this morning.

The leading candidate to succeed Nagelsmann is former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. Reports suggest Klopp has a verbal release clause in his RB Leipzig contract that would allow him to leave should the DFB approach him for the Germany job.
