Middlesbrough have confirmed the appointment of Kim Hellberg as their new head coach, setting their sights on a Premier League return.
The 37-year-old Swede arrives from Hammarby IF, having impressed in Sweden with two successive second-place finishes in the Allsvenskan.
Hellberg is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches.
He is known for favouring an energetic, possession-based style of play, emphasising high pressing, quick transitions, and the proactive reclaiming of the ball.His Hammarby side boasted some of the league’s most attacking statistics in recent seasons.
Middlesbrough reportedly negotiated a compensation package of around £250,000 with Hammarby to secure the Swedish coach’s services. The club will now await the granting of a work permit, while interim boss Adi Viveash continues to oversee first-team duties.
