Boro's search for a new head coach following the shock exit of Rob Edwards to Wolves appears to be coming to an end.

Middlesbrough are expected to announce the appointment of Hammarby boss Kim Hellberg as Edwards' successor imminently, with the 37-year-old also set to bring David Selini, his assistant at Hammarby, with him to Teesside.

With current caretaker manager Adi Viveash also looking likely to remain with Boro as part of Hellberg's new-look coaching team, the soon-to-be Middlesbrough gaffer has reportedly set his heart on bringing another figure with him to the Riverside from his homeland of Sweden...

As per a fresh report from Swedish news outlet Expressen, current Malmo FF interim coach Anes Mravac is of major interest to Middlesbrough, and in particular, Hellberg.

It's claimed that Hellberg has made it clear he wants the 36-year-old to be part of his Boro backroom team, with initial contact between Malmo and Middlesbrough already understood to have commenced.

For now, it remains unclear as to just how advanced those talks are, and indeed whether Mravac has an interest in making the move to the North East, but all three of Mravac, Selini and Hellberg worked together during their respective stints at Swedish club IFK Varnamo, and so there is a strong connection between them.

Mravac was appointed as Malmo's assistant manager in January of this year, but following the departure of manager Henrik Rydstrom in September, was promoted to the role of caretaker boss.

So far, he's won three, drawn two and lost four of the nine games he's taken charge of, and is currently preparing to take his team to England on Thursday night for a Europa League clash with Nottingham Forest.

With Hellberg only being 37, Selini 31 and Mravac 36 respectively, should all three form the spearhead of Middlesbrough's new coaching team, then it's sure to be a group that gets Boro fans very excited indeed.

Despite their youthfulness, this potential Teesside triumvirate are all evidently hugely talented and highly-regarded coaches, who have all already racked up years of coaching experience in professional, senior football.

Selini began his coaching journey back in 2021 when taking up an assistant coaching role with Swedish club IF Sylvia, as did Mravac in that same year, however he'd also been coaching in youth team football before then too.

Hellberg, on the other hand, began his coaching adventure all the way back in the early 2010s, despite only being in his early 20s.

Therefore, Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson appears to be putting his faith in one of the most youthful coaching teams he's ever entrusted to lead his football club, and whilst that will naturally bring about some fear, it will be a good fear for Boro fans, as this could have the potential of being the start of a hugely exciting and succesfull era on Teesside.
