Just a few weeks ago he looked to have cemented his long term future at Chelsea – everything was going well, results were good, he was ticking all the boxes for the ownership and looked set for a long stay at an increasingly stable Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca being considered as a future Man City manager claims David Ornstein.

Things have moved so quickly since then that we’re now already hearing Maresca linked with other jobs.

David Ornstein, the biggest and best source you could hope for, has just Tweeted out that Manchester City are considering appointing the Chelsea coach should Pep Guardiola leave next summer.

There are a lot of “ifs” here – will Maresca go? Will Pep go? Will City bring Maresca in? But given it’s just December we can see things moving steadily in this direction as the season wears on. Maresca worked under Guardiola at City and worked as their Under-21s coach for a year.

Maresca’s switch to be represented by “super agent” Jorge Mendes is also a hint that change could be coming sooner than we expected. This is one to follow…
