Corinthians beat Rosario Central 1-0 at Neo Química Arena to reach the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals, Breno Bidon ending a near eight-year wait for a knockout goal.
The midfielder struck in the second half, finishing a Memphis Depay pass to put the hosts ahead and settle the tie. Meu Timao notes that the moment carried wider context for the club.
It was Corinthians’ first goal in the competition’s knockouts since 29 August 2018, when they beat Colo-Colo 2-1 yet went out on away goals after a 1-0 first-leg defeat in Chile.
Between those strikes, they played five knockout matches without scoring. In order, 0-0 at home to Boca Juniors on 28 June 2022, 0-0 at La Bombonera on 5 July 2022 decided 6-5 on penalties, a 0-2 home loss to Flamengo on 2 August 2022, a 1-0 defeat in Rio on 9 August 2022, and 0-0 away to Rosario Central on 20 August 2026.
Next up is Estudiantes in the last eight, with the second leg again to be played at Neo Química Arena.
