Brentford ‘have submitted’ £40m Diouf bid, Andrews’ call and Lewis-Potter implications | OneFootball

According to The Athletic, Brentford have submitted an improved offer for West Ham left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf worth £35m plus a further five million in potential add-ons.

West Ham rejected an approach in July and ruled out a summer exit, but this bid will test that stance.

Sky Sports reports that Brentford are targeting a new left-winger and a left-back before the one September deadline.

The Senegal international impressed in his first Premier League season, supplying five league assists and offering threat from the left.

Diouf’s arrival would force a left-back call. Rico Henry made 25 league appearances, 14 starts, before a March hamstring tear ended his season, and Aaron Hickey also picked up knocks and made 21, 15 at left-back. With Michael Kayode the only established right-back, Hickey may be needed there.

Adding Diouf would offer cover for Henry and let Hickey focus on the right.

Lewis-Potter, 25, was moved from the front line to left-back by Thomas Frank in November 2024 and then played the remaining 22 there, completing 90 minutes in 18. He is understood to prefer playing higher up, and Andrews has noted he inherited him as a full-back.

Across four seasons at Brentford he has never scored more than three Premier League goals. Diouf’s arrival could push him forward again, yet Jaidon Anthony has already joined and any left-wing addition may hint at his standing in Andrews’ plans.
