Brighton & Hove Albion are closing in on the signing of Jaouen Hadjam from Young Boys, a move that would be the south-coast club’s eighth of the summer.
According to NY Times, the clubs are working on a deal worth around €12 million (£10.3m, $14m) for the 23-year-old left-back.
Born in France, the Algeria international came through at Paris FC and Nantes, then joined Young Boys in 2024 for about £1m. He has made 73 Swiss Super League appearances and featured in the Champions League and Europa League.
Hadjam would deepen Fabian Hurzeler’s options at full-back, with Ferdi Kadioglu and Maxim De Cuyper currently contesting the left side. De Cuyper can operate further forward on the left and Kadioglu also covers right-back, which could free Mats Wieffer to return to central midfield as Carlos Baleba is on the brink of joining Manchester United.
Hurzeler used Wieffer as a right-back last season. Portuguese defender Costinha has arrived from Greek club Olympiacos this summer to add competition and cover on that flank.
Kadioglu missed Sunday’s 4-0 Premier League home win over Aston Villa with a minor injury. Brighton host Norwegian side Tromso in the Conference League play-off round second leg on Thursday after last week’s 0-0 away draw.
