Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Jack Hinshelwood is set for a spell out after a training injury, and his return timeframe remains unclear, according to NY Times.

The 21-year-old missed Brighton’s 4-0 win over Tromso in Thursday’s Conference League play-off second leg. Matt O’Riley, Yasin Ayari and Pascal Gross started in midfield against the Norwegian side.

It is a setback for head coach Fabian Hurzeler after Hinshelwood excelled on the opening Premier League weekend, scoring twice from the No 10 role in a 4-0 defeat of Aston Villa before being substituted in the 64th minute.

Hurzeler said the issue arose in training the previous day, that Brighton would monitor him day by day, and that he could not provide a clear schedule for the player’s return.

Hinshelwood made 27 Premier League appearances last season, scoring four goals and providing four assists, and he missed two months following right ankle ligament damage in September.

An academy graduate, he operated in central midfield and occasionally at right-back before Hurzeler converted him into an attacking midfielder in March, when he also signed a new contract until 2029.

Since his senior debut in May 2023, he has made 81 appearances in all competitions, recording 14 goals and seven assists.

He joins forwards Kaoru Mitoma, Evan Ferguson, Stefanos Tzimas and Yankuba Minteh on the sidelines, with the latter the subject of two rejected bids from Liverpool.
