Marcelo Brozovic lingered as a target for a few Italian clubs, as he was a free agent after wrapping up his run at Al-Nassr, but he’s ultimately staying in the Middle East, albeit leaving Saudi Arabia, as he has agreed to a deal with Al-Sadd, Tuttomercatoweb reports.

He’ll play in the same Qatari club as former Lazio star Alessio Romagnoli. The midfielder had been attached to Juventus, Lazio, and Fiorentina in previous weeks. The Bianconeri considered him recently, given their wave of injuries, but they would have had to make some cuts from their list to accommodate and field him even in domestic play.

Brozovic signed a deal with exorbitant figures for Serie A standards, as he’ll earn €10M. He agreed to a one-year pact with an option. He registered 8 goals and 23 assists in 124 matches with Al-Nassr.

The veteran played at Inter for a decade, starring in over 330 matches and contributing to one Scudetto and two Coppa Italia triumphs.

Those figures are no match for Italian sides, but given the fairly intense chatter, he likely would have accepted a more manageable salary to head back. The jury is still out on players heading back to Saudi Arabia, as Franck Kessié has been the only one to do it in the Peninsula.

Still, the situation is so dire at Juventus that they should have given some more serious thought to bringing him in. Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram suffered debilitating injuries and might not give them much this season, even once they have recovered. They’ll live very dangerously in the midfield for months.
