Sunderland manager Jack Ross has hinted that Bryan Oviedo could be in line for a recall against Burton Albion on Wednesday.

Oviedo returned to action on Saturday in the 2-1 win over Rochdale, coming on as a second-half substitute for Denver Hume.

Ross praised his cameo at Spotland and believes the Costa Rican can finally contribute after months in the cold.

“Bryan gives us composure and quality in the final third,” he told reporters.

“It’s been difficult because he had a lot of injuries, and hardly played over the Christmas and New Year period.

“But I’ve never really concerned myself with that because Bryan and I speak. He’s always known where he is.

“It’s a testament to the culture within the group that everybody is pulling in the same direction.

“I was pleased for him on Saturday because he all he wants is to play football.”

The Black Cats are still chasing automatic promotion in League One, currently just two points behind second placed Barnsley.
