Bryan Zaragoza is set to join Espanyol from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

The Spanish winger endured a frustrating spell at Bayern, where he struggled to get enough opportunities to prove his talent.

Over the years, he has spent most of his time out on loan, but he is now set to leave the German club permanently.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal has been agreed for Zaragoza to join Espanyol on loan for the rest of the season.

The Spanish club will have a mandatory option to sign the 24-year-old permanently for a fee of €8m, allowing him to finally bring an end to his difficult spell at Bayern in 2027.

Alongside Zaragoza, Bayern have also reached an agreement to offload Wisdom Mike, who is set to join Club Brugge permanently.

Likewise, Joao Palhinha is also set to leave Bayern this summer, with the midfielder close to joining Portuguese giants Benfica.

Zaragoza is a curious case of a transfer that never really worked out at Bayern.

The 24-year-old initially joined the Bavarian giants on loan from Granada before the move was eventually made permanent.

He arrived at a time when Thomas Tuchel wanted new faces at the club, with Christoph Freund operating as the chief.

However, Tuchel did not give Zaragoza enough playing time, leaving the winger frustrated. The Bayern boss also barely communicated with him.

As a result, Zaragoza endured a difficult start to life at Bayern from the beginning.

After six months, it became clear that the move was not going to work, and his loan cycle began.

He subsequently spent time at Osasuna, Celta Vigo and AS Roma on loan, meaning he never had the time or opportunity to settle at Bayern.

Zaragoza was never truly part of the first-team setup and also struggled to adapt to Bayern’s style of play.

A permanent move away from the club is therefore the best possible scenario for him, and he is now one step away from joining Espanyol.
