Burnley's fan pundit shares their thoughts on the club's links to Senegalese striker Bamba Dieng this summer

Burnley will be playing Championship football once again next season after a third Premier League relegation in five years, but will be hoping to make it three promotions in six years with a strong summer transfer window.

Indeed, Burnley will be playing their football in the English second tier once again next season following another relegation from the Premier League.

The Clarets are becoming something of a yo-yo club nowadays, and will be hoping to continue that trend for at least one more year with another promotion in the upcoming campaign.

Scott Parker, having led them to the top flight with 100 points and just 16 goals conceded, was unable to adjust his side to the Premier League, and with relegation confirmed before the final day, the former England midfielder left his position at the helm, leaving the Clarets in search of a new permanent boss.

Steven Gerrard has been heavily linked with the role, whilst Wales boss Craig Bellamy squashed any chances of a return to the club where he worked under Vincent Kompany as an assistant manager. Derby County's John Eustace and Cardiff City's Brian Barry-Murphy have also been touted as contenders, but their hunt continues, with no concrete moves having been reported as yet.

This has seemingly not stopped transfer business from beginning at Turf Moor, however, with the Clarets facing a battle with numerous Championship rivals for the services of an international striker on a free transfer.

Burnley face Derby County and Queens Park Rangers transfer threat for Senegalese striker Bamba Dieng this summer

Burnley had the second-worst attack in the Premier League last season, ahead of only bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, as the Clarets will likely endure a big revamp at the top end of the pitch this summer.

They will nevertheless be hoping to keep hold of Dutch forward Zian Flemming, who managed to hit double figures for goals in the Premier League despite relegation, and are seemingly keen to add Senegalese striker Bamba Dieng to the mix.

Dieng, 26, has spent his entire career in France with the likes of Marseille, Angers, and Lorient, the latter of whom he managed to score 16 goals for in all competitions last season.

With his contract expiring, numerous Championship clubs, including Queens Park Rangers and West Bromwich Albion, have been linked with a move for Dieng, as Alan Nixon has recently reported that Burnley, alongside Derby County, have joined the race for his signature.

Football League World's Burnley fan pundit, Aaron Wright, has shared their thoughts on the club's links to Dieng and whether he is someone the Clarets should be looking to bring in this summer.

Aaron told FLW: "He looks like he's had a very good season in Ligue 1. Ten goals, you're not going to turn that down, and it seems to put him in roughly Flemming numbers from last season.

"He seems to be someone who can score with either foot as well. That's a positive. The immediate basic high test on starts, [he's] outperformed his xG. He doesn't need a lot of chances to score a goal. Also, [he] roughly gets half of his shots on target, which is always a good sign.

"The only consideration I'd have, or only slight potential drawback, is it's only one season. It seems like it's only one season. He got seven in 25, I think, for Marseille the other year, but I haven't looked into that massively.

"But last season, ten goals, can't really complain. On a free as well, it'll meet SCR, it will help with that especially. Yeah, seems like an alright option, if a little bit left field."

Burnley must accelerate managerial appointment amid Bamba Dieng links

With the summer transfer window almost underway, Burnley are one of the few teams in the Championship that has yet to have a manager appointed for next season.

The Clarets appear to be taking their time to sound out their preferred candidates, and will no doubt have a list of preferred coaches in mind, but with the transfer window set to begin, they cannot afford to wait much longer.

Dieng has shown no indication that he is set to make his decision on his next club just yet, but regardless, Burnley must work on a head coach appointment and then decide whether the Senegalese is a player that they can make use of.

Huge decisions are on the horizon at Turf Moor, including Dieng, as Burnley must begin to accelerate their summer plans sooner rather than later.
