Burnley have confirmed the signing of Reo Hatate from Celtic. The Japanese midfielder departs with the best wishes of everyone connected with Celtic as he makes the next step in his career.
Hatate, who submitted a transfer request at the end of last season, was expected to leave this summer and has made a switch to England.
Hatate departs for an undisclosed fee, which will no doubt be reported in due course. His transfermarkt valuation was around £8m but you’d struggle to reach that figure since he clearly wanted away.
The 28-year-old made 191 appearances for Celtic, scoring 33 goals and assisting on 31 occasions. Hatate arrived as part of the initial Japanese quartet signed by Ange Postecoglou and scored a stunning goal against Tynecastle at Hearts before that memorable night under the lights against Rangers.
Reports had suggested that the player was holding out for a top five league but on the back of his recent form, it is maybe not surprising that this didn’t come into fruition.
Best of luck, Reo.
