Pyramids FC qualified for CAF Champions League quarter-finals after 4-1 away win over Rivers United in Group A.

Strong away display seals top spot

Pyramids FC confirmed their place in CAF Champions League quarter-finals after convincing 4-1 victory over Rivers United on Sunday.

The match played at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo as part of matchday 5 of the group stage.

With this result, Pyramids secured top spot in Group A, regardless of the final round.

Comeback after early setback

Rivers United opened the scoring in 32 minute through Stephen Manyo who struck from direct free-kick outside the penalty area.

Pyramids struggled in first half but showed much stronger reaction after the break.

In the 52 minute, Mostafa Fathi equalised for the Egyptian side after smart assist from Mostafa Ziko bringing Pyramids back into the match.

The turning point came late on as Pyramids made better use of their squad depth and fitness.

Late goals complete dominant win

Substitutions played a key in the final stages. In the 88 minute, Odeh Fakhouri scored his first goal for Pyramids giving his team the lead.

Just three minute later, Nasser Maher added the fourth goal in minute 91 finishing off dominant performance and sealing a big away win.

Group A standings confirmed

With one match remaining, Pyramids have closed the qualification race and cannot be caught at the top of the group.
