Summer signing was forced off against Tottenham last weekend
Manchester United could be forced to turn to the January transfer market should their worst fears be realised, with Benjamin Sesko suffering an injury scare at the weekend.
The Slovenian hobbled off before the full-time whistle in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham, with reports later confirming that the striker was nursing a knee problem.
The 22-year-old is a fresh summer signing at Old Trafford, having arrived from RB Leipzig for £73.7million.
He has featured in 11 Premier League games this term, scoring twice for his new side.
Now, however, he could be set for a spell on the sidelines after his injury tale took a further twist yesterday.
The striker pulled out of Slovenia’s latest squad for the upcoming international break - much to the annoyance of his international boss- and he will now remain at Carrington to focus on his recovery.
The timeframe of his absence is yet to be confirmed - although reports suggest that it is not serious - and should he either be sidelined for a prolonged period, or suffer a setback, then United may be forced to act in the transfer window to find a short-term replacement.
Rasmus Hojlund, the Napoli striker, is still on the Red Devils’ books, on loan at the Serie A side. He has started well, scoring four goals in 10 games across all competitions.
A potential option could be to recall the Dane from his spell in Italy, although the Manchester Evening News claim that there is no recall clause in the striker’s loan agreement.
The deal is thought to include an option to buy with £38m, which is likely to become an obligation should Napoli qualify for the Champions League.
Ruben Amorim also has Dutchman Joshua Zirkzee at his disposal, but the former Bayern Munich and Bolgona forward has played a total of 90 minutes across five games in all competitions this season.
