Joao Cancelo returned to the Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday, appearing with Barcelona’s players before the Joan Gamper Trophy friendly against Egyptian side Al Ahly, despite still officially being an Al Hilal player and with no Barcelona announcement.

According to Goal.com, Al Hilal and the Portuguese full-back agreed to terminate his contract, which was due to run until the end of the season, with Cancelo waiving the remainder of his pay.

The 32-year-old joined Al Hilal in summer 2024 but was left out of their domestic squad, prompting a loan to Barcelona in the second half of last season.

He impressed during that spell and helped Barcelona win La Liga ahead of long-time rivals Real Madrid.

Barcelona are expected to confirm a free transfer in the coming hours, allowing him to continue the journey he began last season.
