Sunderland enter the Carabao Cup at the third round after qualifying for the Europa League, and will learn their opponents this week as the second round concludes.

According to Sunderland Echo, the draw at this stage is not regionalised. European entrants, including Sunderland, will have a Sky Sports pre-draw to decide home or away before Preston North End v Everton.

The third-round draw will then be conducted on Wednesday, 26 August during Sky Sports’ live coverage of Preston North End v Everton, with the full draw taking place after the match has finished.

Second-round ties still to play are on Wednesday, Bradford City v Burnley, Newcastle United v West Bromwich Albion, Tottenham Hotspur v Charlton Athletic, and Preston North End v Everton. On Thursday, Chelsea v Luton Town and Fulham v AFC Wimbledon complete the round.

Sunderland are ball eight for the third round. Winners from the remaining second-round fixtures will join the nine European entrants in the hat.

They include Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Brighton and Hove Albion, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.
