Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil’s Italian head coach, has named Corinthians goalkeeper Hugo Souza along with two largely unknown youngsters for the upcoming friendlies, while 33-year-old Alisson has not been ruled out. According to L'Équipe, the selection points to a shift towards youth.
Souza’s only cap came in a 2-3 friendly defeat to Japan in Tokyo on 14 October 2025.
Even at 41, Thiago Silva moved early. The Fluminense captain criticised the approach of his former mentor days before the announcement, saying players aged 31 to 33 in good form should not be discarded and urging Brazil not to rush. He has 113 caps.
Ancelotti’s latest list is markedly younger, with the average age down from 28.6 at the 2026 World Cup to 25.
The announcement followed Silva’s remarks and underlined a clear emphasis on renewal ahead of the two friendlies.
