Carlos Alberto de Nóbrega moved Flamengo fans with an emotional tribute to Zico. Speaking to Canal Zico 10, the veteran presenter said he was reduced to tears recalling the club icon.

He relived Zico’s 1985 return after two seasons at Udinese. “I am very emotional.”

“The day you came back from Italy, I saw you on the fire truck in Leblon and I cried knowing you had returned.”

“Thank you, Zico. Thank you for the joy you gave me. You were a hero.”

“Zico was a god for Flamengo, right?”

“You knew something was coming, something would happen with that ball.”

Zico led Flamengo to their major early 1980s triumphs, including the 1981 Libertadores and world title, as well as Brazilian championships.

He also classed Pelé in a category of his own, then placed Zico at the head of the rest he had watched.

His remarks quickly struck a chord with Flamengo supporters, underlining how the No 10’s appeal has spanned generations.

Now 90, Carlos Alberto said he wants to meet Zico again to talk football and revisit old stories.
