Carlos Álvarez’s future at Levante is entering decisive hours as the window closes, with Sevilla directly affected by any deal.

According to Superdeporte, the midfielder did not feature in the last two LaLiga games, at Osasuna and against Real Betis. Luís Castro first called it a coaching decision, then, after the 5-2 win, said it was tactical.

That absence is striking given his influence in recent seasons. Central to promotion to Primera, he was hindered by injuries last term, then ended pre-season fit with two assists against Castellón before losing prominence once competition began.

Inside the squad there is acceptance that his future is open. After the Betis win, Roger Brugué underlined his importance to the rise, and president Pablo Sánchez accepted that anything could happen in the final days.

Álvarez is under contract until 30 June 2027 and has not agreed a renewal. That makes this summer pivotal if Levante want a fee, as from January he can talk to other clubs about a post contract move.

His clause is 25 million euros, up from 15 million when he arrived from Sevilla, rising automatically by 10 million with promotion. Sevilla kept a 40% sell-on for any 2024 or 2025 sale, dropping to 30% from 2026, and have maintained informal interest. A significant outlay late in the window is not believed to be in their plan, though money from the sale of Oso could come into play.
