Carlos Vinicius ended an eight-game goal drought with a brace in the decisive Gre-Nal, firing Grêmio to a 3-1 win and into the Copa do Brasil semi-finals. It was his longest barren run since joining the club.

The centre-forward now has 20 goals in 44 outings this season, leading the club’s scoring charts ahead of Amuzu on eight. According to Globo.com, talks over extending his stay are ongoing and there is currently no agreement.

His tally has already surpassed Braithwaite’s 2025 mark, when the Dane finished top scorer with 15. Last year, despite arriving in July, Vinicius struck 12 in 14 to end as second top scorer.

Recently he was benched for Braithwaite against Bragantino and Chapecoense after a technical decision, with head coach Luís Castro calling the role an open contest. On the back of his Gre-Nal display, Vinicius has regained undisputed starter status.

He is contracted until December 2026, and Grêmio have offered a new deal through to the end of 2028.

The player has attracted enquiries from other Brazilian clubs and from abroad, including Mexico and MLS. His representatives were at the Arena on Thursday.
