“Mason’s back round the group, he trained this week. That’s a real positive,” Carrick said.

However, Carrick confirmed Amad will miss the visit of Ipswich after suffering an injury before the opening day defeat to Hull City.

“Amad won’t be involved this week. He’ll be out a little bit longer,” he said.

Matthijs de Ligt has also returned to training as he continues his recovery from back surgery in May, although it remains unclear whether he will be ready to feature against Ipswich.

New signing Carlos Baleba is still expected to be several weeks away from making his United debut as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
