CD Castellón add set-piece expert as Brignani thanks fans after knee surgery | OneFootball

CD Castellón’s Tuesday brought contrasting updates, Fabrizio Brignani underwent successful surgery on his right ACL, and the club confirmed Norwegian coach Mathias Haugaasen has joined the staff to focus on set pieces.

The Italian defender was operated on for a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He faces several months out and could miss the whole season.

Brignani thanked Castellón supporters for their messages, saying they had given him strength. He said he will do everything to return as soon as possible, signing off with Pam Pam Orellut.

Haugaasen, born on 24 May 1979, brings broad European experience. He worked at Vålerenga, Grorud IL and Bryne FK in Norway before moving into scouting and talent identification with Manchester United.

He later coached youth national sides at the Norwegian FA, then joined Aalborg BK in Denmark. At Castellón he will specialise in set plays within the backroom staff.
