CD Castellón have signed Álvaro García, the Primera RFEF top scorer, to bolster their front line this winter. The 26-year-old Cantabrian, who stands 1.92 metres, will wear albinegro.
Several Segunda clubs, including Córdoba and Granada, tracked him as the window opened. Ideal reports that Granada’s lowly league position affected the final details of their move.
This season García has 13 goals for Mérida, 12 in the league, marking a full breakthrough. Last term he hit 17 with SD Logroñés. Castellón value his potential and see immediate impact.
Born in Colindres in October 1999, he came through Racing de Santander, then Tropezón and Colindres. He broke into senior football at Laredo, debuting in the old Segunda B with 25 games and five goals.
His first spell away from Cantabria was with UE Costa Brava, alongside current Castellón midfielder Álex Calatrava, playing 34 Primera RFEF matches and scoring once. He returned to Laredo in Segunda RFEF for four goals, then joined Arenas de Getxo for six, and SD Logroñés, where he struck 17 and earned promotion to Primera RFEF. He has since shone in the first half of this campaign at Mérida.
In principle, he will play a complementary role alongside Ousmane Camara and Adam Jakobsen. The forward line had lost Nick Markanich, loaned to Houston Dynamo of MLS. García becomes the third winter addition after wing-back Raúl Sánchez from Necaxa and defender Ismael Fadel, registered with the B team from Yeclano.
