Cebolinha has been released by Flamengo to return to Rio de Janeiro to handle a potential move, and will miss Thursday’s Conmebol Libertadores trip to Independiente del Valle in Quito. The club said in a statement that the forward was excused for personal matters.

The forward has a contract until the end of this season and has told the club he will not remain in 2027. He had rejoined recent squads under head coach Leonardo Jardim, but the plan to depart at season’s end has not changed.

He was recently close to signing for Krasnodar in Russia, while Brazilian sides Santos and Botafogo have made enquiries. His preference is to move abroad, with Russia and Türkiye viewed as realistic options and Portugal and Greece also open.

There have been no renewal proposals since February, and his representatives have been seeking options since then. Cebolinha is in his fifth season with the Rio club after arriving from Benfica in 2022.

Midfielder Lorran has also returned to Rio to fulfil youth-team commitments.
