Celtic defender set for seventh successive loan with Livingston move imminent

Adam Montgomery is reportedly set to return to Livingston on a season-long loan in a move that could effectively bring his Celtic career to an end.

The 24-year-old spent the first half of last season at Almondvale, starting Livingston’s opening eight Scottish Premiership matches before a long-term injury curtailed his campaign.

That spell came under David Martindale, but Montgomery is now poised to return with Glenn Whelan in charge of the West Lothian club.

According to the Daily Record, the Celtic defender is set to join Livingston on loan for the remainder of the season.

The move would represent Montgomery’s seventh consecutive loan spell since he last made a competitive appearance for Celtic in December 2021.

It would also take him through to the expiry of his Celtic contract at the end of the season, potentially signalling the end of his time with the Hoops.

Montgomery was given an opportunity to impress Martin O’Neill this summer, featuring in all four of Celtic’s pre-season matches as the manager operated with limited options at left-back.

However, another temporary departure now appears imminent.

Montgomery initially broke into the Celtic first team under Ange Postecoglou, making 18 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign and featuring at both left-back and on the wing.
