Alex McLeish claims Ismaila Soro would hurt Celtic if he left the club this summer despite his limited game time this season.

The former Scotland boss exclusively spoke to Football Insider about Soro’s future after a fresh transfer report.

The Daily Mail claim that Soro is being monitored by Spurs as they work with a restricted budget this summer.

Soro, 22, joined Celtic from Israeli outfit Bnei Yehunda in January 2020 and he has made a big impression this season despite not being a regular starter under John Kennedy.

Celtic legend Frank McAvennie has regularly told Football Insider how the midfielder is a gem and should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

When asked if Celtic would be hurt by Soro’s departure, McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “There’s no doubt about that.

“I’m certain, the foreign players understand what it means to play for Rangers and Celtic in the same way Scottish players do.

“[If Soro is sold] The money could go into helping the rebuild this summer, that’s got to be taken into consideration.

“Money doesn’t grow on trees and it’s been difficult. Everybody has suffered.”

Soro’s only goal contributions this season came back in December as he scored and picked up an assist against Dundee United.

He replaced Scott Brown midway through the second half during Celtic’s weekend loss to Rangers.
