Our Champions League Awards celebrate the best – and worst – of the matchday six action.
Charles De Ketelaere put on a clinic as Atalanta came from behind to beat Chelsea in Bergamo. The Belgian was the inspiration behind the home side’s fightback, as he set up the equaliser before scoring the decisive goal himself.
A surging run and pinpoint cross picked out Gianluca Scamacca to level the game, before De Ketelaere punished a retreating Chelsea defence to drill in a winner past Robert Sanchez.
Those moments aside, he created three chances and won 6/7 duels in a best-on-ground display.
A fantastic night’s work from De Ketelaere, who often comes alive in the Champions League. He has 14 goal involvements in his last 13 appearances in this competition.
You just don’t save those.
Noni Madueke has come a long way since the scrutiny that greeted his summer transfer to Arsenal. Five months on, he’s proven himself an astute addition and was electric in the club’s 3-0 win at Club Brugge. Madueke’s opener in Belgium might just have won him Arsenal’s Goal of the Season accolade already.
Why have one save when you can have several?
Temirlan Anarbekov was a one-man wall of defiance for Kairat against Olympiacos, with the goalkeeper’s string of saves keeping the score down. The 22-year-old has caught the eye for the debutants this season.
Arsenal continue to provide a pathway for Hale End talent.
Marli Salmon this week became the third teenager aged 16 or under to feature for the club in the Champions League.
Erling Haaland just couldn’t resist a dig at Jamie Carragher, following the ex-Liverpool defender’s public comments on Mohamed Salah this week..
