Champions League: Victor Osimhen sets new record for a Nigerian player

دوري أبطال أوروبا: فيكتور أوسيمين يسجل رقماً قياسياً جديداً للاعب نيجيري
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen continues to make history in the UEFA Champions League. Thanks to another assist in the latest round of European action, the center-forward has now delivered the most prolific season ever recorded by a Nigerian player in the competition.
With eight decisive contributions this season—seven goals and one assist—the Nigerian international sets a new benchmark for footballers from his country in Europe's most prestigious club tournament.
During Tuesday night's clash, Victor Osimhen once again stood out, providing an assist that helped his team find the back of the net. This decisive contribution brings his total to eight direct involvements, a figure never before reached by a Nigerian player in a single Champions League campaign.
With this performance, the striker surpasses several compatriots who previously held the record with six contributions in a season.
Before him, the record was shared by several Nigerian forwards who had left their mark on European competition. Among them was Ademola Lookman, who tallied six contributions with Atalanta during the 2024-2025 season. The same total was also reached by John Utaka with RC Lens in 2002-2003, Yakubu Aiyegbeni for Maccabi Haifa FC that same season, and Tijani Babangida with AFC Ajax in the 1996-1997 campaign.
By breaking the eight-contribution barrier, Victor Osimhen has become the most decisive Nigerian in a single Champions League season.
This latest achievement further cements Victor Osimhen's status among the most influential African strikers of the modern era in the UEFA Champions League.
