Charlton Athletic are among the sides interested in signing Burton Albion striker Cole Stockton this month, as reported by Alan Nixon, via his Patreon account.

This January transfer window is the first chance manager Michael Appleton has been given to make changes to the Charlton squad.

The former Lincoln City and Blackpool manager was brought in by the club after the summer transfer window, as they decided to go in a different direction from previous boss Dean Holden.

However, it hasn’t been the change the club’s hierarchy probably thought it was going to be, as the Addicks are still someway short of the play-offs; in fact, they are closer to the relegation zone than the top six.

But, with the second half of the campaign still to come, Appleton will hope a strong month of transfer activity can help springboard the club for the remainder of the campaign.

As mentioned, Charlton are among the sides that are interested in Burton striker Cole Stockton.

It is also claimed by Nixon, that as well as the Addicks, fellow League One side Stevenage are also interested in the striker and so are non-league side Oldham Athletic.

Stockton ended his four-year spell at Lancashire side Morecambe in the summer, as his contract expired at the club.

It was announced in the summer that the 29-year-old had decided to join Burton Albion on a two-year contract.

Alan Nixon, that the Brewers are willing to let the forward leave the club this month.

All three sides are looking to make the play-offs in their respective leagues, with the Addicks somewhat short and in need of more attacking options. Stevenage are sitting in seventh place, and adding a goalscorer to their ranks could improve their chances of a top-six finish.

Oldham are looking to return to the Football League and will be hopeful of attracting another striker to drop down a couple of decisions.

Cole Stockton’s stats

Cole Stockton has played for a host of EFL sides in his career, with Burton being the latest, but it seems like a move that just hasn’t worked out.

The forward has struggled to be a prolific player in front of goal, but in the last couple of seasons at Morecambe, he did manage to do that.

The 29-year-old was immense, as he scored 47 goals in three league seasons as the Shrimps were promoted from League Two and then survived relegation.

However, his move to Burton hasn’t continued in that way, as the striker has played 16 times for the League One side this season, during which time he has scored just one goal.

Stockton has yet to score in the league, and that form seems to have Burton looking at a possible departure this month.

Charlton Athletic need a new striker this month

If Charlton Athletic have any hope of finishing in the play-offs this season, then they are going to need to add to their squad, especially their forward line.

The Addicks have been heavily reliant on Alfie May this season, but now with Miles Leaburn out for a sustained period and other players attracting transfer interest, it is key they add to this area of the team.

Stockton has proved he can score goals at this level, but it hasn’t worked out at Burton. But joining Charlton could see the goals return, as he would be playing with a higher level of players.
