Jesurun Rak-Sakyi will not be returning to the Valley in a high-profile transfer

Charlton Athletic will not be seeing former loan star, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi seal an emotional permanent return to The Valley from South London rivals, Crystal Palace.

The Addicks have been heavily tipped to be relegated from the Championship to League One this season, but if their early-season results are anything to go by, Nathan Jones' side will be proving the doubters wrong again.

Indeed, after dramatically defeating Derby County 2-1 on the opening day of the campaign in SE7, Jones' team caused the first Championship loss at the London Stadium for West Ham United, as they emerged victorious by exactly the same scoreline.

However, an expected defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Wednesday evening has been followed up with some extremely frustrating news on the transfer front, mainly involving the winger who shone for the Reds during the 2022/23 season under Ben Garner and Dean Holden.

Indeed, it was reported on Tuesday that the South London club were on the cusp of finalising a transfer with the UEFA Conference League winners for the 23-year-old, who has only made 10 senior appearances at Selhurst Park.

However, whilst it has been revealed that a £5m figure is what would have needed to be reached, the Championship side were not able to agree on 'finer details', although Rak-Sakyi, who scored 15 times in 49 prior appearances for Charlton, had been present at the club's training ground to undergo his medical and discuss the relevant personal terms.

That said, Charlton's huge loss could still be the gain of another Championship club, and Football League World have looked at two who should be reacting to this fresh transfer twist as soon as possible.

Prior to the aforementioned twist, FLW exclusively revealed that the 23-year-old was on the respective radars of Burnley and Wrexham, and with just days to go in the transfer window, the Clarets should be making their interest even more advanced.

Nicky Hayen's squad is somewhat decimated in wide areas due to an injury sustained by Jaydon Banel in pre-season, leaving Jacob Bruun Larsen as the only senior left-wing option at present, albeit he continues to attract transfer interest himself, whilst the same can also be said for Marcus Edwards on the opposite flank.

During his senior career to-date, Rak-Sakyi has primarily operated on the right side of midfield, but has the versatility to feature on the left, which could help plug some obvious gaps in the Belgian's squad.

Furthermore, the winger is only one appearance off a total of 50 in the division from two loan spells with Sheffield United and Stoke City, where in the first, he scored seven times in 36 appearances in a promotion-chasing side, which Burnley will hope to be, once again, this season despite an underwhelming start.

There are similar issues for John Eustace at Derby County, who have also reportedly been monitoring the services of Barnsley's Reyes Cleary and Anis Mehmeti of Ipswich Town to plug those gaps.

Bobby Clark, who signed permanently from RB Salzburg in the summer, was seen operating in a makeshift right-wing role against Cardiff City on August 22nd, whilst on the opposite flank, Eustace utilised Corey Blackett-Taylor, who spent last season with Bolton Wanderers, such are the lack of options.

Even though the Rams, due to injuries, will potentially look to add more than one wide option to their 25-man squad in the window's final days, Rak-Sakyi would not just bolster the club's depth, but provide a strong option on either flank through his direct nature, pace and unpredictability.

As such, this could help provide plenty of goals for Carlton Morris and USMNT international, Patrick Agyemang, when the latter returns from a lengthy absence of his own.
