The Blues go into the game after suffering their first league defeat under Bompastor at the weekend. Chelsea had 30 shots on goal against Everton at Kingsmeadow on Sunday but ended up going down 1-0.
Chelsea have not been overly ruthless so far this season and head coach Bompastor again highlighted the need to develop a killer instinct when speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the AS Roma tie.
“I think what is important in this situation is to analyse the performance,” Bompastor said. “What is difficult is that the result wasn’t what we wanted at the weekend and our job is to win the games because we want to compete and fight for trophies.
“If you analyse the performance, it was not a bad performance; the statistics showed that we had the ball and created a lot of chances. Right now, we are creating chances but we are not scoring them. What is important is that the players stay confident. I’m fully-confident, I know the quality that I have in the squad. Sometimes, when you over-think things, you struggle a bit more.
“We need to stay natural, keep working – maybe on some more details than before and we need to make sure we keep the connections on the pitch. It’s now about having the killer instinct in-front of goal.”
Latest opponents AS Roma are yet to win in the UEFA Women’s Champions League’s all-new league phase but Bompastor still sees the Italians as a threat.
She said “Roma are a team that like to play football, they like to have the ball. They try to build out from the back-line with the keeper.
“Coming into the game, they have nothing to lose. They will probably come with a lot of desire and will want to win the game.
“We can again expect a tough game and we will have to perform at our best.”
Commenting on the UEFA Women’s Champions League’s new structure, Bompastor said that she is a fan of the league phase.
She said “I really like this new format. The competition is high now that we have more teams that can compete at the highest level. The competition is high and that’s what we are looking for.
“It’s a new format and we are happy to be playing in that new format.”
