Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi is set to undergo a medical at Crystal Palace ahead of a season-long loan move to Selhurst Park.

Disasi is free to leave Chelsea this summer after being informed that he does not feature in Xabi Alonso’s plans. The Frenchman is currently training away from the main squad, alongside squad members including Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap.

Sky Sports are reporting that Crystal Palace are now close to finalising an agreement to sign Disasi on loan. The Eagles had been keen to bolster their backline, after losing Marc Guehi and Maxence Lacroix in consecutive transfer windows. The latter headed in the opposite direction earlier this summer, signing for Chelsea for £52m.

Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham and impressed despite the Hammers’ relegation from the Premier League. West Ham had hoped to sign Disasi on a permanent deal, but the defender has opted to remain in the top flight.

The 28-year-old is set to become Palace’s latest signing under new head coach Pierre Sage, who has added a number of defenders, including Oscar Mingueza and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Disasi is set to become the latest Chelsea player to head to Crystal Palace on loan in recent seasons, after frequent business between the London neighbours. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah have all spent time on loan at Palace from Chelsea.
