Chelsea are doing a nice Christmas series where they look at a few of their players and their festive stories, and today they took a chance to look at Benoit Badiashile.

There’s something sweet about hearing a grown man, especially a pretty stoic one like BB, talk about his Christmas memories. For example, when he talks about getting a remote controlled car for his present, you can almost see the smile breaking out on his face:

“I don’t know if it was the first [present I remember], but I can really remember one when I received an electric car.”

Like all Frenchmen, he also can’t resist a chance to point out how much better French food is than the swill we eat in the British Isles:

“It’s the [normal Christmas] food, it’s not that different from what people have in England. The best bit is le dinde, which is the roast turkey. It’s similar to here, but I like it done the French way.”

“For me, it’s more about Christmas Eve, the evening, and then on Christmas morning we don’t really do anything too special. On Christmas Eve, we have a big dinner with a lot of food and we just talk and laugh all together.”

Happy Christmas, Benoit. Let’s hope we get some good performances from him under the tree.

In other news…

Enzo Maresca did his best Pep Guardiola impression after Chelsea’s win over Cardiff in midweek, claiming he was “very happy” while looking anything but. It was as unsettling as you could imagine…

Andrey Santos also spoke after the win over Cardiff about his process of coming to Chelsea and how he had been inspired by Brazilians who went before him. We don’t like the sound of his sleepless week, however!

Joao Pedro has played a lot of games for Chelsea now and it’s fair to say the overall feeling is disappointment, especially given the bright start he made in his first few games at the Club World Cup.
