As has already been well-publicised, Nico Williams is the priority target for FC Barcelona and the club are completely focused on signing the 22-year-old winger at this moment before targeting other transfers.

The Athletic Club ace is seen as the perfect fit for the club’s new project owing to his style of play, age, and the chemistry with the Barcelona players he struck up while on national team duty for Spain.

Barcelona, though, are not alone in pursuit of the Spanish speedster with several top clubs across Europe keeping an eye on the UEFA Euro 2024 breakout star.

Chelsea ‘would love’ to sign Nico Williams

Indeed, according to The Athletic, Premier League big spenders Chelsea ‘would love’ to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club.

Nico, who has a release clause worth €58 million in his contract at Athletic Club, is high on the transfer wishlist of Chelsea this summer.

Having been monitoring the 22-year-old speedster since last season, the Blues feel confident about having done the necessary groundwork for the player’s acquisition.

However, at the same time, Chelsea are aware of the strong interest in Nico from Barcelona and the fact that the Blaugrana have concrete plans in place to secure the Spaniard’s services.

The report further suggests that Nico, for his part, would give preference to continuing in Spain rather than a move abroad at this point in his career, handing Hansi Flick & co. an advantage over Chelsea.

More teams like Arsenal and Newcastle United are also said to be interested but both are aware that the signing would be out of their reach.

However, with the threat from Chelsea looming, it is understandable that Barcelona wish to wrap up the signing of Nico, possibly before the end of this month itself.
