Chelsea ‘furious’ as Lamine Camara move collapses

Chelsea have been left ‘furious’ after the late collapse of the club’s move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.

Camara completed a medical in France ahead of a £47.1m move to Chelsea on deadline day, with all terms agreed. However, the transfer collapsed shortly after the 11pm transfer deadline, after Monaco informed Chelsea that they did not wish to proceed.

According to the BBC, the West Londoners received no explanation from the Ligue 1 side, and wee left furious. Camara had been targeted as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who moved to Manchester City for a £125m fee on deadline day.

The collapse leaves Chelsea without a replacement for Fernandez, though the Blues opted to proceed with that sale out of ‘good faith’ to Manchester City.

Monaco’s U-turn is understood to have been influenced by Folarin Balogun’s move to Everton. Balogun underwent a medical at Everton ahead of a £40m move, but had a late change of heart. Monaco’s preference was to sell Balogun over Camara, and cancelled the latter’s deal when it looked like the Balogun deal was on.

It concluded a messy final few hours of the transfer window for Monaco, who were believed to need a significant sale. Both Balogun and Camara, however, have remained in France.
