We’re just two games away from the halfway point of the Premier League season, making it a perfect time to take a look at the stats behind Chelsea’s season so far.

Moises Caicedo still has the highest WhoScored rating in the squad at 7.18, making him the 11th highest rated player in the league, but just 0.02 points behind him is Trevoh Chalobah.

The academy product is the third top rated central defender in the league after Marcos Senesi of Bournemouth and Gabriel of Arsenal. So where is Chalobah shining?

The fact that he has 3 goals is helping his rating of course, but really it’s on the ball where he’s racking up numbers. His passes attempted, pass completion and expected assists are all in the top 20% among central defenders in the top 5 leagues according to FBRef numbers.

Defensively you don’t even need stats to look at – he’s super reliable and effective both in the air and on the ground.

As you know, we’ve always been huge Chalobah fans, and it’s been immensely satisfying watching him come back from setback after setback and prove the sporting directors who have tried to sell him wrong time and again.

In other news…

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca remains in the headlines after his explosive comments, and on the London is Blue podcast Matt Law broke down the chances of him leaving for Man City this summer.

Another subject discussed by Law on the podcast was a lack of depth in midfield thanks to injuries to Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo, and how it has cost Chelsea at times this season. It sounds like something Enzo Maresca and the transfer team are going to have to address sooner rather than later.
