Chelsea lost to Fulham today after going down to ten men, but they did have one good moment when they started to put on some pressure and Liam Delap scored from a corner.

The striker had come on as a sub against Man City at the weekend and had done well there too, impressing with his threat in behind and the way he forced City back and changing the game.

Liam Delap scored his first Premier League goal for Chelsea.

After the game, Calum McFarlane spoke about Delap and his impact after he was upgraded to a starter tonight.

“I thought Liam was brilliant when he came on at the Etihad,” McFarlane said.

“Tough circumstances tonight being the single striker when you’re down to 10 men. But he did well and got us up the pitch. I’m delighted he got his goal, he will take confidence from that and I hope his performances stay at this level.”

We’d agree with all that. Tonight was a particularly tall order for him after the red. Delap is obviously struggling, but he does at least put himself about and make good runs. The things that’s been lacking is goals, and hopefully now he’s got one in the league, others will follow.

He’s been bad – but he does a lot more when he’s on the pitch than Joao Pedro does, and for that reason we expect Delap to remain first choice in the league once Liam Rosenior takes over later this week.

There were chants aimed at Behdad Eghbali, who was in the stands at Craven Cottage, and you can see them here.

Chelsea had levelled the game through Delap, who knocked in a loose ball after it came in on the post.
