Chelsea have identified Roma’s Manu Kone as a key target as they look to reinforce their midfield before the summer transfer window closes.
According to RMC reporter Fabrice Hawkins, the 25-year-old French international is high on Chelsea’s transfer shortlist.
Kone increased his stock on the global stage with standout performances for France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Playing a key role as Les Bleus reached the semi-finals, his composure, distribution, and defensive work rate established him as one of the tournament’s breakout midfielders.
Roma consider the former Toulouse and Borussia Monchengladbach star one of their prized assets.
While the Italian giants are eager to keep him, they remain open to a sale if their financial requirements are met before the deadline.
Roma have already rejected a proposal from Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer. Chelsea’s interest comes as they prepare for a potential squad restructuring late in the transfer window.
With Enzo Fernandez likely to depart, the Blues are actively lining up replacements. While Lamine Camara has also been linked, Kone has emerged as the primary choice for Chelsea’s decision-makers.
The Frenchman is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League, viewing a transfer to England as the ideal next step in his career.
Chelsea have tracked Kone’s development since his Bundesliga days and value his ability to play both deep-lying and box-to-box midfield roles.
In his first competitive match since France’s World Cup exit to Spain, Kone helped Roma secure a convincing 4-0 win over Fiorentina in their Serie A opener.
Despite ongoing speculation, he is expected to feature against Leece later on Monday.
