Chelsea appear to have lost out on main transfer target for this winter, centre back Jeremy Jacquet of Rennes.
It came as a big shock yesterday as developments happened late into Sunday. Chelsea fans believed they might be getting Jacquet and the deal was close, even if it was going to be a deal for the summer rather than right now.
But the Liverpool interest in Jacquet transpired and started to grow across the day, with more and more noise suggesting that they could actually win this race.

Chelsea have now missed out on Jacquet, and we have even seen the ‘Here We Go’ reported on the deal for him to join Liverpool, via Fabrizio Romano’s X account late last night.
He posted:
‘Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool, here we go! Deal agreed now for June 2026, as revealed.
‘Understand fee is €60m plus €10m add-ons to Rennes. Jeremy has agreed personal terms with #LFC.
‘Agreement done for summer 2026 for one of the most talented CBs in the world.’
It looks like a simple case of the player just deciding he would rather go to another club, and he’s chosen to join Liverpool over Chelsea here.
It’s also since been confirmed that Chelsea are recalling Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg. The centre back has been on loan there this season at Chelsea’s sister club, but they are about to terminate that move now in order to bring in their new centre back this winter.
This comes after Aaron Anselmino was recalled from his loan move at Dortmund, to then be sent to Strasbourg for the rest of this season on loan – covering Sarr leaving.
