Chelsea have shortlisted Nottingham Forest centre-half Murillo as they search for defensive reinforcements this summer, according to journalist Jacob Steinberg.

Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah have failed to impress this season.

The Blues are reportedly monitoring Murillo, who has caught the eye with his swashbuckling style. His aggressive, front-foot defending is greatly admired.

His ability to drive forward with the ball is also remarkable. The stocky centre-half has helped keep six clean sheets in 23 Premier League appearances this term.

Murillo has won 51 percent of his aerial and 57% of his ground duels.

Chelsea are finally looking at ready-made, Premier League-experienced players to plug the gap in the squad, and Murillo fits the bill.

Lauded for his ‘silky’ style of play, he is a ‘super talent’. However, Chelsea cannot afford to be seduced by style over substance.

Chelsea need more dominance at the back

For all of Murillo’s composure and ball-carrying quality, those duel numbers raise serious red flags for a side crying out for defensive authority.

Winning barely half of his aerial battles is not the profile of a centre-back capable of commanding a backline at a club with Chelsea’s ambitions.

What they need is presence, someone who dominates physically, organises and imposes himself on attackers. Jan Paul van Hecke should be the priority.

The Brighton & Hove Albion defender is just as assured in possession, but far more aggressive and reliable in duels, bringing the kind of steel Chelsea currently lack.

Add in his proven Premier League pedigree and Chelsea’s strong track record with Brighton recruits, and the choice becomes clear.
