Chelsea have been offered the opportunity to acquire young Arsenal talent Myles Lewis-Skelly, according to reports.

There is increased competition in Arsenal’s midfield this summer following the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes, who officially joined the North London club from Newcastle United on a £75 million deal last Saturday.

This, of course, affects some players' positions in the squad.

According to Football London, Arsenal’s versatile midfielder Lewis-Skelly has since been offered to Chelsea and Manchester United.

It remains unclear whether Chelsea would make a move, but the 19-year-old is suggested to have been on the club’s radar for a while now.

Additionally, it is understood that Arsenal could be open to selling their academy graduate for a good offer.

Is there space for Lewis-Skelly at Chelsea?

It is safe to say that Lewis-Skelly would face similar competition for midfield spots at Chelsea.

While Lewis-Skelly is now competing with Guimaraes, Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Mikel Merino in Arsenal's midfield, Chelsea’s midfield is just as packed.

Xabi Alonso already has plenty of options in midfield, such as Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Dario Essugo, Romeo Lavia, and two summer signings, Valentin Barco and Jordan Henderson.

Fernandez is reported to have attracted interest from Manchester City, so there is a possibility he could leave, but even without him, Alonso has arguably had more midfielders than he would need.

Chelsea plan to keep Essugo, but he is reported to be open to leaving the club on loan in search of regular football.

Lewis-Skelly, however, is more than just a central midfielder. He is also capable of playing as a left-back.

Chelsea are expected to announce the signing of Pep Chavarria from Spanish side Rayo Vallecano soon, but there could be room for an additional left-back in the squad.

As it stands, Jorrel Hato is the only natural left-back option in Chelsea’s senior squad, with Marco Palestra and Malo Gusto, who are primarily right-backs, providing cover on the left.

Lewis-Skelly, who spent a brief period at Cobham before returning to Arsenal’s Hale End, also signed a new long-term contract with the North London side last year, tying him to the club until June 2030.

This puts Arsenal in a strong position in any potential negotiations for the young midfielder, likely increasing their asking price.

That said, if, as reported, Chelsea have had Lewis-Skelly on their radar for quite some time, this could be an opportunity that the club would not want to miss out on.

The England international made 36 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions last season, but only 19 of those were as a starter.
