Blues not at their best at Turf Moor but produce a professional performance to leave with all three points

Chelsea moved up to second in the Premier League for the time being as they won 2-0 against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Enzo Maresca’s side face Barcelona and Arsenal in a huge week coming up and produced the ideal audition as Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez scored either side of the break.

Maresca was also able to rest Moises Caicedo, Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao, with Reece James taken off at half-time in a game that tested the Blues but never felt like proving a challenge that would be beyond them.

Standard Sport’s Dom Smith was at Turf Moor to rate the Chelsea players’ performances…

Robert Sanchez 6

Kept another valuable clean sheet in the league, but didn’t have to do a great deal to do so.

Reece James 6

Some good examples of the Englishman using his physicality and strength in the first half. Taken off at half-time.

Tosin Adarabioyo 7

Defended well and used his excellent long passing range to good use with some lovely diagonals balls forward.

Trevoh Chalobah 6

Started at centre-back but filled in well as a right wing-back when James went off.

Marc Cucurella 7

A real hound whenever Burnley were threatening, and came into midfield very effectively in possession.

Wasn’t quite the deep midfield link that Moises Caicedo is when he plays, but rotated play well and scored the second goal late on.

Andrey Santos 7

Really impressive in midfield as the Brazilian deputised for Caicedo with a mature and well-rounded performance.

Scored the decisive goal with a diving header round the back and was Chelsea’s best player and biggest threat. Picked up a stupid booking for not handing the ball back for a Burnley goal kick. Involved in the second goal too.

Joao Pedro 5

Difficult day at the office for the forward, who operated in behind Delap but could not produce a telling impact on the game before being taken off and rested for Barcelona.

Jamie Gittens 7

Grew into the game, just as he is his Chelsea career, and produced his first-ever Premier League assist.

Liam Delap 5

A frustrating afternoon for the striker, who produced a couple of nice turns but was otherwise disappointing.

Subs:

Benoit Badiashile (James, 46’) 5

Defended well when introduced off the bench. Maresca will be pleased to have the Frenchman back fit. Booked.

Malo Gusto (Delap, 67’) 6

Came on and made an impact defensively. Nearly second the second when he forced a good save with a counter-attack he’d instigated.

Marc Guiu (Joao Pedro, 76’) N/A

Assisted the second goal.

Not used: Jorgensen, Hato, Caicedo, Acheampong, Estevao, Garnacho
