Chelsea have shortlisted Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs as a potential upgrade in goal this summer.

Roefs has been a standout in Sunderland’s impressive campaign since promotion, having arrived from NEC Nijmegen for a fee of around £9m last summer.

The Dutchman has recorded eight clean sheets in the Premier League and ranks highly for saves (4th) and save percentage (3rd – 72.2%).

Chelsea are one of several sides now contemplating an approach. Robert Sanchez has struggled to convince as number one, while Filip Jorgensen has also failed to stake his claim.

Roefs is considered a Premier League proven upgrade on the pair, though TEAMtalk say bidding will need to reach around £60m. Liverpool are also monitoring Roefs amid doubts over Alisson’s future.

Chelsea do have Mike Penders out on loan at Strasbourg and a decision will be made on whether to pursue a new goalkeeper or hand the 20-year-old an opportunity in pre-season.

Sunderland are willing to entertain big offers for leading names. The Black Cats are likely to require sales in the summer, after heavy investment upon promotion, and Roefs would offer an instant profit.
