Chelsea star’s incredible 16 defensive contributions in perfect Caicedo impression

Chelsea have just beaten Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor in a pretty ugly game.

The home side were on top early on, and Chelsea weren’t able to build much. But the Blues scored two nice goals, and spent the rest of the game trying to control things. That’s something they’ve really struggled with when playing without their star man of this season, Moises Caicedo. But his understudy, Andrey Santos, was our best player in the game, and was a more than adequate replacement for the Ecuador star.

A look at his stats shows you everything you need to know. His first notable moment came with some superb reading of the play to stay with a Burnley attacker and then put in a heavy block to stop him scoring.

Santos does his best Caicedo impression

From there he continued to do really well, performing both in winning the ball back and in taking it forward. FotMob gave him a 7.8 rating for his showing. He had 34 of 42 passes completed, created a chance and was really confident on the ball.

But it was defensively that he really needed to step into Caicedo’s shoes, and he did just that. He had 3 tackles, that big block, 3 clearances, 4 interceptions and 4 recoveries. His total of 16 defensive contributions was a full 6 clear of Tosin’s 10, the second most on Chelsea’s team.

Santos still has to be patient, as he won’t be playing ahead of Caicedo anytime soon, but he did his case a lot of credit today.

In other Burnley win news…

Chelsea added their second late on to seal a win, with a really attractive counter attack which tore through the Burnley team and was finished off by G/A machine Enzo Fernandez.

Reece James was taken off at half time of this match, causing some fears about injury, but there were major clues on the sideline that this was all pre-planned and we needn’t worry about it.
